Cubs - busy busy
I know I'm a bit late but happy new year and all the best for 2006. I hope that you all had good holidays, got a chance to meet with family and friends, etc...
Well we're back in the swing of things (actually since January 10th). We started off with a great meeting with a visit from a Search&Rescue. They talked about the Hug-a-Tree program. Ever heard about it ? No, it's not about hippies or people protesting deforestation it's about teaching children what to do if they should get lost in the woods. They focus on children (5-12) but I think it could apply to anyone, even adults. They showed us a dramatization video as well as alot of questions and answers. They also did a demonstration with a rescue dog. I think that was the highlight of the evening. For more info on this program contact your local RCMP detachment. Visit this website for more info: http://www.rcmp.ca/ccaps/hug_e.htm
We also had our 3 rd annual Mad Trapper Run at CampJJ. This was lots of fun (I had to leave early so I missed out ... oh well). There were many activities like: tobogganing, snowshoeing, and shelter building. Chill provided lunch with his delicious chili. We actually built an igloo (well Scouter John actually built most of it) with the use of the "IceBox" from GrandShelters. ( see this website: http://www.grandshelters.com/ ). This is really cool. I went back the next day with Akela to help him dismantle the temporary shelter and went inside the igloo. Wow. The snow had hardened to ice. This is actually our 2nd attempt at building an igloo. Our 1st attempt was at scouter Jeff's place during the holidays. ( see pics ). Pictures of the Mad Trapper event are to come soon.
What's coming up in February ? Hmmm, let's see ... well I'm taking the BPP&D course every thursday night until February 9th, possible linking activity with the Beavers, our winter camp at Sonshine Cove on Lac Corbeau, starting our kubcars maybe.
